Joey Barton: Burnley midfielder banned for 18 months over betting

Burnley midfielder Joey Barton has been banned from football for 18 months after admitting a Football Association charge in relation to betting.
The 34-year-old has been fined £30,000 and warned about his future conduct after being charged with breaking FA rules for placing 1,260 bets on matches between 26 March 2006 and 13 May 2016.
Barton said he is addicted to gambling.

J ose Mourinho offered a public show of support to Ed Woodward after Manchester United fans flew a plane over Turf Moor in protest at the club’s executive vice-chairman. A banner that read “Ed Woodward A Specialist In Failure” was flown over the ground 20 minutes before kick-off, the same choice of words Mourinho had once used to describe Arsene Wenger, the former Arsenal manager. But Mourinho brushed off the protest after  United’s 2-0 win over Burnley  as he offered Woodward his backing, despite their relationship becoming strained over the summer over transfers. “You know, in the match I am not looking to the sky – unless I am asking something for the guy to give me help,” Mourinho said, smiling. “I didn’t see planes but Ed Woodward won this afternoon. He won 2-0.” Mourinho suggested some of his critics would be “disappointed” to see United win, a reaction to the criticism the Portuguese has received after successive defeats to Brighton and Tottenham.
